Holy Trinity Monastery is a male monastic community under the auspices of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. We are dedicated to a life of prayer and obedience according to the pre-revoluntionary monastic tradition.

We draw our origins from the Pochaev Lavra of St. Job of Pochaev in Southern Ukraine when monks fled from Pochaev in the face of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. As descendants of the Lavra of Pochaev, we continue the mission established by St. Job in the 15th century to publish books for the edification and protection of the faithful.

Within the monastery is located a studio and school of Russian iconography conducted by disciples of master iconographer Fr. Cyprian (Pijoff). Also situated within the monastic community is Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, with young men from around the world training for the holy priesthood and ministry within our Church. Consisting of impressive buildings and an other-worldly way of life, Holy Trinity Monastery is a source of spiritual nourishment and support for the Orthodox Church.

Quick answer to a practical question: How to venerate an icon of a parable?
This Sunday the festal icon in the Church depicts the proud keeper of the law and the repentant sinner from a teaching story Christ told -- not an image of an actual person or event. How and why should we venerate it?

What we're doing is honoring the teaching of the Lord, as when we venerate the Gospel book. In the body language of our tradition, that looks like a bow and a kiss, offered in the presence of the Lord who gave us the word.

Unlike an image of a saint or angel, there isn't any actual person to honor besides the Lord who spoke the parable. So, some people pause and identify the figure in the image who is a *good* example or who represents God; but that may be more analysis than is needed to honor the Lord's word. Many people simply kiss the border or frame of the icon.

Most importantly -- let us not only venerate the icon of the parable, but let the Lord's teaching on the pharisee and tax collector, on pride and repentance, enter our heart and shape our thankful obedience to God!

Everybody argues about whether Noah’s Ark was a box, a barge, or a floating warehouse.
Cool.
But you’re missing the point if that’s all you see.
In the Holy Orthodox Church, the Ark is not just a boat. It’s a revelation.
The Ark was made of wood.
The Church is built upon the wood of the Cross.
The Ark was sealed with pitch so the waters couldn’t break in.
The Church is sealed by grace, by the Holy Spirit, so death cannot swallow her.
The Ark had one door.
Christ says in John 10:9, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.” Not one of many doors. The Door.
The Ark carried those inside safely through the waters of judgment.
The Church carries her children through the waters of baptism, through death itself, into life.
The flood waters weren’t random rain. They were judgment and death sweeping the earth.
And what saved Noah?
Not swimming skills.
Not feelings.
But obedience, faith, and entering what God provided.
Here’s the part people miss.
The Ark looked ordinary from the outside. Just wood and pitch. Nothing glamorous. But inside it was life.
The Church looks ordinary to the world. Wood, incense, bread, wine, water. But inside her is the life of the world.
The Ark had one family and animals from every kind.
The Church gathers one new humanity from every nation.
The Ark rested on a mountain after judgment.
The Church rests on the Rock in the Resurrection after the Cross.
If you only read Genesis as a kid’s animal story, you’ll miss the Gospel hiding in plain sight.
God judged evil.
God preserved a remnant.
God provided one way of salvation.
He still does.
